MILPITAS, CA (February 19, 2008) - Aperto® Networks, builder of the world's most advanced WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, today announced that it has been selected by PESCO Telecom for a major WiMAX deployment in Lebanon. PESCO Telecom, which is the largest service provider and integrator in that country, will use PacketMAX® base stations, subscriber units, and WaveCenterT Pro element management system to provide wireless broadband services in the Levant region of Lebanon.

"We have been an Aperto customer for some time and know that PacketMAX is the ideal solution for our offerings in the 3.5 GHz band," said Wassim El Khoury, Network Expansion Manager at Pesco Telecom. "Like many service providers, we are concerned with the cost of deploying and managing WiMAX. PacketMAX 5000 is the highest capacity carrier-grade base station on the market. And with Aperto's WaveCenter EMS product, PacketMAX lets us serve a huge number of customers with exceptional QoS and reliability."

PESCO will be using PacketMAX mainly to deliver wireless broadband data service to high-end corporate customers, especially banks and other multi-branch businesses. Additionally, PESCO will be providing value-added services such as video conferencing and VoIP.

"The PESCO Telecom deal is part of a string of new customer wins for Aperto in the Middle East and highlights our commitment to the region," said Manish Gupta, Vice President of Marketing & Alliances for Aperto Networks and WiMAX Forum Board Member. "Although PESCO has deployed Aperto equipment in the past, this will be our first WiMAX deployment in Lebanon. It underscores how our technology fundamentally changes the economics of deploying a cost-effective solution."

"The cost of deploying WiMAX is a big issue facing the industry", said Daryl Schoolar, Senior Analyst with In-Stat. "Technology and interoperability aside, service providers are in the business of making money. They need solutions that are cost-effective and scalable. "

The PacketMAX family of products delivers the critical elements required to extend wireless broadband services to a wide range of users-ranging from governments, large enterprises and public-sector organizations to multi-tenant buildings and residences-using a single, standards-based platform. The company's flagship product, the PacketMAX 5000 base station, is also the only carrier-grade base station that can support and operate both the IEEE802.16-2004 and IEEE802.16-2005 WiMAX standards simultaneously.
